Frequently Asked Questions

  • At Calma, we mix the mindful flow of classical Pilates with the burn of contemporary, athletic reformer training. Think precision meets power — graceful movement with a fiery twist. Every class is designed to challenge your body, focus your mind, and leave you feeling calm, but never bored.

    • You are welcome (and encouraged!) to take photos before or after class, but phone use is prohibited during the 55 minute session. If you need to check your phone in the case of an emergency, please inform the instructor before class.

    • Please arrive 5–10 minutes early to set up and avoid disruptions once class begins.

    • The minimum age to attend is 18. You must provide parental consent on our liability waiver.

    • Please note that instructors and class formats may change without notice. For the most up-to-date schedule, check our online booking system and make sure you’re subscribed to studio emails or texts so you never miss an update.

    • Calma Pilates is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items. If you think you left something behind, please call or email us as soon as possible—we’re happy to check and do our best to help locate it

  • We recommend starting with a private session or reaching out to the studio before your first class — that way, we can show you the ropes and make sure you feel confident and supported from the start. If you're new to the reformer or tower, we'll walk you through the equipment and safety basics so you feel comfortable using it in class.

  • Dress the Part:
Think comfy, fitted activewear — leggings or bike shorts and a supportive top. Nothing too loose, so your instructor can see your alignment and you can move with ease. Grippy socks are required for stability and style.

    What to Bring:

    • A water bottle to stay hydrated.

    • A small towel if you tend to sweat.

    • An open mind and a willingness to work — we’ll take care of the rest.

    What We Provide:
All reformers, props, and equipment are ready and waiting for you — just show up and move.

  • Calma Pilates is located on State Street in downtown Santa Barbara, on the north side of the Arlington Theatre—directly across the street from Carlito’s Café & Cantina.

  • The City parking lot behind the Arlington and nearby downtown garages are the most reliable choices, especially during busy hours or event evenings. There is also limited street parking along State Street and surrounding side streets—just be mindful of posted time limits.

For the smoothest arrival, we recommend giving yourself a few extra minutes to park, take a breath, and settle in before class.

  • If you’re pregnant, postpartum, recovering from an injury, or managing any physical limitations, please let your instructor know before class begins. This allows us to offer safe modifications and make sure you’re moving in a way that works for your body.

No fuss — just clear communication and smart adjustments to keep you safe.

  • We totally get that life happens — but as a small, semi-private studio with only five reformers, we have to keep things fair for everyone, so here’s how cancellations and scheduling work at Calma:

    Cancellation Policy (8 Hours):

    • We have a strict 8-hour cancellation window.

    • Any cancellations or schedule changes made after the 8-hour mark will result in a $20 fee and a loss of class credit. Late-cancellation credits may be re-issued if you contact us directly.

    • Want to switch to another class and you're still outside the 8-hour window? No problem — you can move to another class as long as it isn’t sold out.

    • Need to switch or cancel within 8 hours of class? That counts as a late cancellation, and the credit will be forfeited.

    No Shows:

    • If you don’t show up for class, a $20 no-show fee will be charged and a credit removed from your account (our reformers are limited and highly loved!).

    Late Arrival:

    • We have a 5-minute grace period to keep classes safe and flowing.

    • Arriving more than 5 minutes late means we can’t let you join — your spot will be given up, and the class credit will be lost.

  • Didn’t snag a spot? Hop on the waitlist — it really works!

    • If a spot opens up, you’ll be automatically added to class up to 1 hour before class time.

    • Once added, you’re responsible for attending or cancelling — and yes, the 8-hour cancellation policy still applies.

    • The waitlist closes 1 hour before class and won’t auto-fill after that.

    • Changed your mind? Please remove yourself from the waitlist at least 12 hours in advance to avoid losing a credit.
